About the Auxiliaries

In His commission to the Church, Christ instructed His disciples to "...Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature..." (Mark 16:15). In order to accomplish this tremendous endeavor in these last days, God has provided numerous ministries by which the message of Christ and His Church can be carried into all of the world.

Within the government and structure of The Church of God, there are divisions of saint labor. The overall ministry schema is highlighted by five primary ministries known as auxiliaries. These are the Assembly Band Movement, Church of Prophecy Marker Association, Sunday School, Victory Leaders Band, and Women’s Missionary Band. Other ministries, such as the World Missions Department or Bible Training Institute, also contribute in their own way to promoting the furtherance of the Kingdom and the Church.

From the 1988 business guide: "To retain its uniquesness as the Body of Christ, the Church must be certain it continues to operate according to God's plan for her. At different intervals God, through the Assembly, has placed auxiliaries within the Church, which we have accepted as helps and governments as referred to in 1 Corinthians 12:28. These have been a help to us, both financially and by nurturing the spirit in which the Church must do her work."

The auxiliaries for the Northwest Region are as follows:

  • Sunday School - Diana Barker, Regional Coordinator
  • ABM (Assembly Band Movement) - Ron Barker, Regional Coordinator
  • WMB (Women's Missionary Band) - Laurie Emerson, Regional Coordinator
  • VLB (Victory Leader's Band) -  Justin Sweeney, Regional Coordinator
  • CPMA (Church of Prophesy Marker Association ) - Arlene Kizziah, Regional Coordinator
  • BTI (Bible Training Institute) - Lauren Kauffman, Regional Coordinator

Sunday School
The Sunday School spirit was ignited by Christ and was passed by Him to the disciples. The Sunday School is a modern title for an ancient and apostolic service to the Church. It is a school for disciples and friends. It is a school with a Master. It is a school with a textbook - the Bible. The Sunday School is a flame which will help dispel the darkness of spiritual ignorance. Beyond the limits of the Church, beyond the homes of believers, beyond the bounds of Christian civilization are neglected multitudes to whom the very alphabet of religion is an unknown thing and familiar phrases of Christian faith a strange thing. Therefore, the spirit of the Sunday School must always remain active so as to fulfill its place with dignity within the Church today.

The Assembly Band Movement (ABM) is the Church's department of pastoral care, and its purpose is to see that each member of The Church of God is shown the proper care. The Assembly Band Movement is one of the five major auxiliaries that has been set in the Church. Originally introduced in 1916, the ABM has maintained its purposes of keeping, maturing, and equipping the membership of the Body of Christ for the overall work of the ministry for the evangelization of the world with the full gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Victory Leaders' Band department oversees the needs of today's youth. Psalms 78:4-7 says,"...shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments."

The Church of Prophecy Marker Association serves a purpose for the Church similar to what Communion does for us as Christians. As the Communion service is observed in remembrance of Christ, so the CPMA ministry keeps us reminded of Christ's Church - its nature, function, purpose, doctrine, organization, and distinguishing marks. Its ministry is designed to keep us mindful of the peculiarities of the Bible Church.

The Bible records in 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth". The ministry of Bible Training Institute is devoted to training people in the foundations of the Word of God. This training not only encompasses doctrine, but it also incorporates aspects of business, polity, and procedure.

Concerning the promotion and operation of the auxiliaries, the Ways & Means Committee presented a report to the General Assembly, which is recorded in the 69th AM (1974, p. 153, WMC). In it, the Ways & Means Committee stated: "We want to urge each leader to continue to make known the purposes of each auxiliary, and to make known the blessings and helps the auxiliaries are to each local church and the Church world-wide in carrying out the commission of the Church." Because of the importance of the work of the Church and the role of the auxiliaries in helping to equip members and promote that work, we encourage every auxiliary leader to take take this admonition to heart and pray for a passion to carry out your appointment with fervency and anointing.
